How do I reserve my spot?

What if I register and can’t attend the workshop?

All workshop registrations are final sale regardless of circumstance. Once you find someone to take your place, be sure to let Sara know via email: Sara@ZumbaBySara.com.

I’m dying for a Booty Shirt. How do I get my hands on one?

Support the Girls: The Best Sports Bras for Zumba

Monday, February 14th, 2011

With all the jumping, shaking and shimmying we do in class it’s important that we take care of “the girls” and keep them in check. I’m not blessed in that area, so I tend to be sporting cute Zumbawear deep v and halter bras, but I’ve been doing some research for my bigger busted women and here’s what I’ve found.

Image via Women’s Health

The site Big Bust Support suggests the following:

  • Don’t buy one that you have to pull on over your head. For one, they’re embarrassing to put on and second they will not offer you good support. If it’s stretchy enough to pull on over your head then it’s definitely not tight enough to hold you tight.
  • Look for a one that hooks in the front or the back.
  • It needs to be the right size to keep you held in tight. They tend to run smaller in size in order to do this. *It will feel tighter than you ever thought it should be.
  • Invest the time to find the right sized bra
  • Look for material that wicks away moisture. Nylon works great for this.
  • Also the material that makes up your bra should not be stretchy. Try stretching it with your hands. Look for strong fabric.
  • A good sports bra for big busts will probably be ugly. The uglier the better. You’re not trying to win beauty contests here, so it’s okay.
  • It needs to have lots of re-enforced fabric, extra wide bands, and full coverage cups. No one will see it anyway, but they will notice you if you have to dance with your hands supporting your chest. Now that looks funny *When you try it on, jump, move and dance. Make sure the girls stay put.

Big Bust Support recommends the Shock Absorber d+109 for women C,D and DD and Enell Sports Bra 100 for large breasted women (bigger than an E cup).

TITLE NINE: The site that a lot of my colleges recommended was Title Nine.  Their famous “Frog Bra” is not being made at this time, but there is an entire category called 3+ Barbells for larger busted women.

Let me know if you have any questions or recommendations for good supportive sports bras!

Hello Ladies! I know my blogging has been a little lax lately, but I have been so busy and have so many fun and exciting tricks up my sleeve for 2011 and I can’t wait to share them all with you. With this being said, I won’t be posting my ALL my playlists from each and every class. ARE YOU READY?

Saturday, January 29th, 2011

One of the BEST things about Zumba class is that it doesn’t feel like a work out, right? It feels like a party! Where you hang out, dance with your friends, and getting a workout is the icing on the cake!

Although it may seem like I throw together a bunch of fun songs that I LOVE and feel like “performing” for you in class, the truth of the matter is that there is a method, and a magic, to my madness. There is a TON that goes into making the class feel like a party and still provide a safe and effective workout for your participants.

I learned a ton of my skills working with Angie Acosta, of Queen City DanceOut! in Charlotte, North Carolina where we worked together to grow and train a team of AMAZING instructors. Now I’m ready to start working with current instructors and training a new Zumba Army to shake up the fitness world in Roanoke, with the launch of Just Dance Roanoke, a dance inspired fitness company that I will be launching this spring!

Ahhhh! I can’t believe I just said it on the internet!

How do you know if you’re ready to start your path to training to become an instructor?

The truth is that you don’t. There is no set list of qualities that someone possesses that make them better than others. But a few questions to ask yourself:

  1. Do I LOVE (not like) but LOVE dance fitness?
  2. Do I have a desire to share this passion through teaching others?
  3. Why would I be a good instructor?
  4. What areas would I struggle in?
  5. Am I fit enough to make it through LEADING an entire class. This is not about shape or size, but level of fitness. (Sidebar- It is soooooo much harder to instruct class than it is to dance)
  6. Why would people want to take class from me?

Now what do I do?

Please know that this isn’t something that happens over night. It can take MONTHS to train, obtain the appropriate certifications and prepare for your first class. If after serious contemplation of the questions above you feel like you’re ready to enter the world of teaching, I would suggest the following:

  1. Get your booty into Zumba and any other dance inspired fitness class as OFTEN as possible. I can not stress this enough. Even after you have a certification…you can never stop learning!
  2. Look into getting a national group exercise certification and any necessary specialty certifications. (AFAAZumba, etc.) This can be done before and/ or after the next step.
  3. Attend my MAKE IT A PARTY workshop, February 19th from 930a-430p, where I break down the in’s and out’s of creating a fun dance inspired fitness class. You must preregister by clicking the link here and getting your form to me ASAP.
  4. Get your booty BACK into class….OFTEN. Keep training. Keep learning. Keep growing.
  5. Take a look at the questions that you asked yourself when you started this journey. Reflect. Re-Answer. Keep growing. Keep learning.

Immediately following my MAKE IT A PARTY workshop I will be holding a short informational meeting about  Just Dance Roanoke, the new dance inspired fitness company I am about to launch this spring. I would LOVE to have you join me if you are interested. Please note, anyone who is going to look to join Just Dance Roanoke, must have attended the MAKE IT A PARTY before they will be taken on as a trainee or instructor.

Please email me with ANY questions: sara@zumbabysara.com.

I have been working on this idea from the moment I began THINKING of moving to Roanoke. I’m so excited to start to share it and have you be a part of it!

Look forward to seeing you all in class soon!

Sara

JDJS: My Personal Goals

Sunday, January 2nd, 2011

I hope all of you had a safe and exciting launch into 2011. It seems like just a few weeks ago, I was beginning my transition into Roanoke and trying to find a job teaching Zumba Fitness.  Less than one year later, I am teaching 5 classes a week and have an amazing group of participants. I’m so thankful for the community that we have built and I can only hope for it to continue to grow into 2011.

I love seeing the growth of our Just Dance Jump Start group and I would LOVE for you to share with me your goals and resolutions for 2011, no matter how big or small.  As promised, here are my resolutions for 2011.

Personal: Choose Happy.

  • Choose Happy. This has been my resolution for the past few years and it’s treated me well, so I am going to resolve to continue this motto.
  • Get my days started earlier. I LOVE sleep, but I hate to rush. I often find myself rushing in the mornings because I fail to give myself enough time because I have hit the snooze button a zillion times. In 2011 I resolve to start my days earlier.
  • Try something NEW once a month. Whether it’s a new food, a class, a hike…Just something NEW!
  • Get on a budget and SAVE more money.
  • Read more books. I have been spending more and more of my time on the computer or in front of the television. I would love to get back into making time for reading.

Professional: Siemens

  • Be more on top of my administrative tasks. I LOVE meeting with customers, but I HATE office work. I tend to procrastinate my admin work, like expense reports, time sheets, call logs, etc. I resolve to get better.

Professional: Zumba by Sara/ Just Dance Roanoke

  • Work to grow a strong community of participants that help to enrich their lives and the lives of those in their community through dance inspired fitness.
  • Work to grow a strong community of  Dance Fitness Instructors. I’m so excited for these BIG Plans…more to come soon!

Health/Fitness: Strong and Sexy in 2011

  • Complete Whole30 in the month of January and keep up healthy eating choices throughout the year. If you want in, check out the ZBS Whole30 Guide.
  • Continue to have health and fitness as a priority.
  • In 2010, I started to add strength training in my weekly workout schedule. I have grown to LOVE the feeling of being strong. This year I have 2 strength goals. (More on this to come too!)
  1. Deadlift twice my body weight.
  2. Complete GRACE (30 Clean and Jerks) at the Crossfit Prescribed weight of 95lbs.

WOW…from the looks of things I have my hands full in 2011, but they say that the best way to reach your goals is to talk about them and put a plan of action into place.

Let’s Jump Start 2011 together!

We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year’s Day. -Edith Lovejoy Pierce

Just Dance Jump Start 2011

Thursday, December 30th, 2010

When I made the decision to move to Roanoke in 2010, I had NO IDEA that Zumba By Sara would grow into the AMAZING community of women the way that it has.  This year has been filled with so much joy and excitement for me, I think that we need to keep the momentum going into 2011. So how do we do this???  With a Just Dance Jump Start 2011 of course!

So how do we get involved?

  1. Join the FACEBOOK Page for Just Dance Jump Start 2011.
  2. Write your GOALS for 2011 on the wall. ALL of them, not just your fitness goals. We need to help each other stay accountable.
  3. Download the Just Dance Jump Start Calender here, and use it to track your goals…don’t get discouraged. Franklin Covey says, “It takes 21 days to form a habit.” DON’T GIVE UP!
  4. Throughout the month of January, we will be having “Clean” girls nights and activities that will help us hold each other accountable and encourage us to keep reaching higher!

Want to take it to the next level with a detoxing food challenge?

  1. Still Join the Just Dance Jumpstart 2011 FACEBOOK Page.
  2. Check out Whole9′s Whole30 Challange.
  3. Download our ZBS Whole30 Guide!
  4. Keep checking back for Blog Posts, Facebook posts and classes for Recipients!

Hold tight…later this week I will be sharing with you my personal goals for 2011! Can’t wait to start 2011 with all of you! Amazing things are going to be coming down the pipeline and I can’t WAIT to share them with you!

Merry Christmas from ZBS

Saturday, December 25th, 2010

We just wanted to take a moment and thank everyone for all of their support this holiday season. All of the classes this week were filled with tons of dancing vixens and amazing energy. A huge thanks to everyone who donated coats and warm weather gear to the Roanoke Area Ministries. There were so many coats that Patsy Wallace, owner of Gold’s, could barely fit them all into her Jeep! Take a look…

Not only was the entire back full, but the back seat and front seat too!

She said that the RAM house was so grateful for the donations and that there were well over 100 people there who were so thankful to have the coats during this cold holiday. You continue to awe me with your love and generosity. We are so lucky to have the opportunity to have such an amazing community of Zumba fanatics!

Merry Christmas!

Love,

Sara and Erin

Get Your Sexy On…Santa Baby Style

Thursday, December 16th, 2010

When I first moved to Roanoke last March, I had 2 huge problems: 1. I had no where to teach Zumba 2. I need to dance like people need to breathe. I heard about Brickhouse Boudoir.  The FLIRT series was awesome and I met a few new friends. The studio closed for renovations and has recently reopened is even more sultry than ever! This weekend a few friends of mine from Zumba and I attended the Santa Baby Chair Dance workshop and it was smokin’ hot. Amanda never lets me down!

For more information on how to “Get Your Sexy On”, sign up for the BHB emails here. I hear January will bring some sexy Burlesque dancing! I can’t wait!
